Escrita Criativa - "Just Say NO to Bullying & Make a Difference"
When he was little, Tiago thought he had a
lot of friends, he played with them, laughed, danced. However, everything
changed in the 10th year, beginning of secondary school, Tiago had to change
schools and consequently his class changed a little. He continued with most of
his friends, but in order to make new friends and not be called strangers for
hanging out with him, an unusual kid because he had vitiligo, they started
calling him names and insulting him to demean him.
That's when it all started, for having a
different appearance from others, he was judged and treated badly. At first, it
was just verbal violence, but as time went by, physical violence also began. He
suffered a lot, but always in secret, until one day he forgot to hide the marks
and when he got home his mother noticed everything. Tiago had nowhere to run
and so he felt obliged to tell his mother everything that was going on. Soon
after finding out what was going on, the mother decided that she would
immediately speak to the school principal, in order to request a transfer to a
different class. When presented with the problem, the principal said that Tiago
was probably exaggerating and that likely the transfer would not be approved.
Disgusted with the whole situation, Tiago's mother promised that she would not
let the incident happen again.
She became her son’s biggest
supporter and determined that Tiago needed help in order to overcome the
traumas, so she placed him in a psychologist. With the help of a specialist
Tiago was able to overcome the traumas and realized that vitiligo is something
unique that represents him, he also recognized that bullying made him a more
resilient and optimistic person.
